About the League

Our Mission and Roles

Our Mission: Empowering Voters. Defending Democracy.

The League of Women Voters has fought since 1920 to improve our systems of government and impact public policies through citizen education and advocacy. The League is a nonpartisan grassroots organization, working at the national, state and local levels.

League of Women Voters of the Pikes Peak Region (LWVPPR) has been active since 1937.

LWVPPR members actively promote voter and civic education for the public and themselves. You can find League volunteers registering voters in high schools and naturalization ceremonies, discussing campaign finance in public forums and presenting the pros and cons of the issues on your election ballot.

The League of Women Voters is strictly nonpartisan; it neither supports nor opposes candidates for office at any level of government. At the same time, the League is wholeheartedly political and works to influence policy through advocacy. It is the original grassroots citizen network, directed by the consensus of its members nationwide. Locally, LWVPPR has taken positions on parks, water quality and health care, among other topics.

The League of Women Voters has two separate and distinct roles.

Voters Service/Citizen Education: we present unbiased nonpartisan information about elections, the voting process, and issues.
Action/Advocacy: after study we establish positions on issues, and we use our positions to advocate for or against particular policies in the public interest.

The League of Women Voters, a membership organization, conducts action and advocacy as a nonprofit educational organization. As of December 13, 2022, the League of Women Voters of the Pikes Peak Region is officially a 501(c)(3) organization.

Nonpartisan Policy

“Nonpartisan” means that the League does not support or oppose any political party or candidate.

A) Partisan political (campaign) literature may be distributed at organized League meetings only if all candidates for a given race are provided the opportunity to participate.

B) Admin Team members are allowed to participate in political activities and campaigns after evaluation of the proposed activity by the entire Admin Team at an Admin Team meeting. Admin Team members shall disclose the extent of their proposed activity prior to commencing the activity.

C) All other members of the LWVPPR shall, if they wish, participate in political activity without restrictions.
